MAKE YOUR WEALTH GROW IN GOODNESS.

MAKE YOUR WEALTH GROW IN GOODNESS.

All praise is due to Allah. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

Allah Has purpose for everything He does, Allah Has specific Time for everything He Does, Allah Has precise measurement for everything He Does. He does everything with Majesty and no one can question Him. If He wills, we will have died before today’s Jumu’ah but He always gives us opportunities to amend and maximize our deeds. Last Jumu’ah Khutbah we talked about His mercies over riding His wrath and this is one of the evidence when He Says “My Mercy Prevails Over My Wrath” meaning we have enough reason to thank Him.
Hamdan wa shukuran siran wajaratan lillahi Rabbi-l-Alamin.

Today we shall discuss about ourselves having gotten all the blessings from Allah and yet we thought it is because we are smart enough that is why we are rich or at times a man will attached his being wealthy to his intellect and wisdom then we say to him, Nay! You are wrong. What will you say about a man who can’t write his name let alone will read or write, yet he has money build up an estate and companies and employed Ph.D,M.Phil,M.Sc holders to manage the estate and companies for him. So we tell you that wealth is from Allah and He gives whom He likes and no one can query Him to that. The Scholars now told us and we could understand that once you are rich or getting money enough, then that is the beginning of your road to Salvation or Destruction. How do we know where we belong is just understanding this Khutbah which is tagged “MAKE YOUR WEALTH GROW IN GOODNESS”.

The declaration of faith in Islam {shahadah} must be finding its way to the heart and be reflected in one’s actions and behaviour. A believer {Mumin} does not hesitate to spend his or her wealth in the cause of Allah and in fact its one of the obligatory duties in Islam and that is giving to the poor their dues which is called ZAKAT. It absolute different from charity {sadaqah} that is voluntarily given out of kindness which has no specific time and amount required. Of course even a smile that is felt on others heart is charity.

Zakat is an annual payment based on fixed rates for different types of wealth, Zakat differs from the other obligatory duties [salat, fasting, and Hajj] in that it is mostly a financial transaction and does not involve any physical act of worship. Only the declaration of intention {niyah} to do it for Allah is required. Paying Zakat is to acknowledge that the wealth in our possession is not ours; it has been given to us by Allah, The Most Exalted as a trust to be spent in ways permitted by HIM and we will be questioned on Judgement Day about weather we honored this trust.

Zakat on self [zakatul fitr] is a fixed amount; it is approximate cost of a meal. Its will therefore vary from one region to another and over time as well as costs vary. it is paid as atonement for shortcomings in one’s performance of fasting during the month of Ramadan as well as to the contribute to the eradication of poverty.
It is given to the needy so that they too can celebrate the completion of the obligatory duty of Fasting. it must paid before the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers and it is usually paid during the last days of Ramadan by the head of the family for himself and for each of his dependents. In places without a Zakat collection body, the amount is aid directly to the needy.

Zakat on wealth [zakatul Maal] must be paid on the most types of wealth. The conditions for the payment include: the wealth in each category must reach the minimum {nisab} for Zakat payment having full ownership of the wealth for a full Hijra year. The zakat levied varies according the type of wealth. The levy on most of the commonly held wealth [cash, jewellery, shares and property] is 2.5% and the Zakat levied is inversely proportionate to the effort required. For example, the Zakat on rain-fed produce is higher compared to that cultivated with irrigation.

The eligible zakat recipient include the poor, the needy, those in serious debt, zakat administrators, new reverts to Islam who need help and stranded travelers.zakat can also be paid to free slaves and aid activities in the way of Allah and giving money to relatives who are in the above categories is not Zakat.
Zakat payment is increasing in most places due to greater awareness of the importance of this obligatory duty. Some are still ignorant about the sin of neglecting this obligatory duty.

The Noble Quran warns:
“The wealth they hid will be heated in the fire of hell and burned on their foreheads, sides and backs with a branding iron. They will be told, ‘here is the wealth that you hoarded’ now tastes what you were hoarding” (Q9:35)

The Messenger of Allah said: “The unpaid Zakat ill appear on Judgement Day as a poisonous Snake with two black specks, which chains him, and then seizes him by his jaws and says, ‘I am your wealth! I am your treasure!” (Bukhari)

Brothers and sisters in Allah’s deen, need I write more to remind you and myself about what awaits all those who neglect this obligatory duty. We shall leave behind everything when we die and this is a reality of life. Zakat is a regular reminder to us not to cling on or tighten our fist to our wealth.

Zakat cleanses the Heart of the love of material wealth, and affirms that nothing is dearer to us than the love of Allah. The Noble Prophet of Allah (SAW) personal belongings at his death were a reed bed, a bed sheet, a bowl, and a shield.
The word Zakat means ‘to purify’ and ‘to grow’.Zakat purifies the remaining wealth. This wealth gains Allah’s blessing and grows like a grain of corn that grows seven ears and each ear has a hundred grains” [Q2:261].
Paying Zakat is a way of submitting to the teaching of the Quran that the poor have a right over the wealth of the rich. [Q70:24-25]. Zakat not only checks hoarding but causes more money to circulate in the community, this leads to greater prosperity for all and strengthens the economy of the Ummah.
Let us be prompt in the payment of zakat as one does not know what may happen tomorrow, pay zakat in secrecy to guard you from hypocritical display and reputation-seeking. You can pay zakat publicly if it is meant only to encourage others to do the same but be on guard inwardly against hypocritical motives.
Do not make the recipients feel ashamed of their poverty, remember that you are only giving what you owe to Allah and it is HE who is providing sustenance to all. Do not be miserly by paying the minimum, pay more if you can afford to do so. it is not how much we give, but how much love we put in giving.

Allah says: “whatever you spend in the cause of Allah shall be paid back to you in full and you shall not be treated unjustly.”(Q8:60)

“You shall find it with Allah, surely Allah is watching all your actions” (Q2:110) and Allah “increases this manifold to whom Allah wishes, as Allah has boundless of knowledge” (Q2:261)

Make your wealth grow in goodness for you here and in Hereafter. Pay your Zakat now; don’t wait till your Soul reaches your throat!
Insha Allah we shall come up with the ways and measures of paying Zakat soonest before then May Allah continue to shower His blessings upon us and Guide us to the Truth. Amin.

Oh Allah!, I seek protection in You from that I should join any partner with you knowingly, I seek your forgiveness from that which I do not know. I repent from ignorance, I free myself from disbelief and from joining partners with You, and I free myself from all sins. I submit to your will, I believe and I declare; “There is no god besides Allah The Eternal and Muhammad (SAW) is the messenger of Allah”.

The righteous predecessors also recommended that a dying person be reminded of his good deeds, so that he can have positive thoughts about his Lord. Jaabir narrated: The Messenger of Allah said, “None of you should die except in the state of having positive thoughts about Allah.” (Muslim).

“Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded". (6:90)

May Allah continue to Guide and Guard us aright. Amin
