The Articles of Faith 1

Bismillahi Rahman Roheem.

All Praise is for Allah. We adore Him and seek His help and forgiveness. We have Faith and Trust in Him. We seek Allah’s refuge against evil tendencies of our Soul and our bad deeds.

He whom Allah guides no one can lead him astray. And he whom Allah lets go astray there is none to guide him. We bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, the One and without any Partner; and we also bear witness that Muhammad (SAW) is His servant and Messenger. Allah had sent him with Truth, to give good tidings and to warn before the Doomsday. Whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be successful and well guided.

And whosoever disobeys either of them has gone astray. Such a person harms none save himself; he does no harm to Allah. The best Word is the Book of Allah. And the best Guidance is that given by Muhammad (SAW). Good things are the firm (original) ones, and Bad things are those introduced later on. And everything introduced later (in religion) is innovation. And every innovation is Hell fire.

Alhamdulillah! So far from last week, our discussion can be summarized as follows:

Islam consists of submission and obedience to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. Since the only authentic source of knowing Him and His Will and Law is the teachings of the true Prophet, we may define Islam as that religion which stands for faith in the teachings of the prophet and steadfast obedience to his ways of life. Consequently, one who ignores the medium of the Prophet and claims to follow God directly is not a ‘Muslim’.

Tawhid: Faith in the unity of Allah.

This is the first among the articles of Faith and Tawhid is the highest conception of godhead, the knowledge of which Allah Has sent mankind in all ages through His Prophets. It was this knowledge with which, in the beginning, Adam (A.S) was sent down to Earth; it was the same knowledge that was revealed to Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus (May Allah be pleased with them all). It was this knowledge which Muhammad (SAW) brought to Mankind.

It is knowledge, pure and absolute, without least shade of ignorance. Man became guilty of shirk, idol worshipping and Kufr in general only because he turned away from the teachings of Muhammad (SAW) and depended on his own faulty reasoning, false perceptions or biased interpretations. Tawhid dispels all the clouds of ignorance and illuminates the horizon with the light of reality.

The most fundamental and the most important teaching of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is faith in the Unity of Allah. This is expressed in the primary Kalimah of Islam as “There is no deity but Allah” (Lah ilaha illa Allah). This beautiful phrase as our shaikh told us is the bedrock of Islam, its foundation and its essence. It is the expression of this belief which differentiates a true Muslim from a Kafir (unbeliever), Mushrik (Polytheist) or dahriyah (an Atheist).

If the Kalimah is repeated without any understanding and conviction, it cannot work the revolution which it is meant to bring about in human life. This can only occur only if a person grasp the full meaning of the doctrine, accepts, follows it in letter and spirit; also avoid, in belief, action, every form of disbelief, atheism and polytheism.

The meaning of Kalimah embraces what truth it conveys and what beliefs it fosters thus, polytheism is a form of ignorance that cannot stand rational scrutiny, it is practical impossible.

The phrase “there is no Deity but Allah” expressed no human and material object possesses the divine power and authority deserving worship and obedience.

Effects of Tawhid on Human life:

1. A believer in this Kalimah can never be narrow minded or in outlook.

2. This belief produces in Man the highest degree of self-respect and self-esteem.

3. Along with self-respect this belief also generates in man sense of modesty and humbleness. It makes him unostentatious and unpretending.

4. This belief makes man virtuous and upright having the conviction that no other means of success and salvation for him except purity of soul and righteousness of behaviour.

5. The believer never becomes despondent; always have firm faith in Allah. It makes man obey and observe Allah’s law.

6. This belief produces in Man a very strong degree of determination, patient, perseverance and absolute trust in Allah.

7. The belief creates an attitude of peace and contentment, purges the mind of jealousy, envy and greed and keeps away the temptations of resorting to base and unfair means for achieving success.

On the final note Shaykh Ibn Abayaomi said “Having faith is not as important as proving it, to profess a Creed is not enough, but all Spiritual declaration must corroborated with actions”

Let us be Muslim and a model for others to follow and Insha Allah we will continue next with belief Angels the second articles of Faith.

I ask for Allah forgiveness upon you and me, May He gives us the strength to be firm on the path of Islam.

Oh Allah! We implore your extended mercy that will forgive our sins and erase our misdeeds and errors. Oh Allah Forgive all our sins hidden and open, big and small. Oh Allah forgives all our dead love ones, our parents living and dead. Oh Allah preserve our teachers those that are dead and those that are living make them a great guide for us to Aljannah and not a distractor. Amin

Alahumma infa`ni bima `allamtani wa `allamni ma yanfa`uni!
(OH ALLAH! Make useful for me what You taught me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me!)

May Allah continue to Guide and Guard us aright. Amin

“Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded". (6:90)

May Allah bless us to serve him in all aspects of our lives.

Wa Salaam Alaikum Waramotullahi Wabarakatuhu
