Understanding the Quran (Summarized commentary of Surah Al-Takathur (102)
Bismillahi-Rahman-Roheem.
All Praises are for Allah; we adore Him and seek His help and forgiveness. We have Faith and Trust in Him. We seek Allah’s refuge against evil tendencies of our Soul and our bad deeds.
He whom Allah guides no one can lead him astray. And he whom Allah lets go astray there is none to guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, the One and without any Partner; and I also bear witness that Muhammad (SAW) is His servant and Messenger. Allah had sent him with Truth, to give good tidings and to warn before the Doomsday.
Whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be successful and well guided. And whosoever disobeys either of them has gone astray. Such a person harms none save himself; he does no harm to Allah. The best Word is the Book of Allah. And the best Guidance is that given by Muhammad (SAW). Good things are the firm (original) ones, and Bad things are those introduced later on. And everything introduced later (in religion) is innovation, and every innovation is in Hell Fire.
After that, I seek Allah’s refuge against Shaitan the outcast and I start in the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the especially Merciful.
This probably an early Makkan Surah which gives a warning against acquisitiveness, i.e. the passion for piling up quantities or numbers, whether in the good things of this world, or in manpower or in other forms of megalomania, which leave no time or opportunity for pursuing the higher things of life.
This is a message to all who are holding position, those of us elected to represent the common man in the government or you , yes you that have been entrusted with a certain Amanah (trust) in any form. Try as much as you could to heed the warning of Almighty Allah (SWT), the absolutely Merciful and the especially Merciful.
Be not engrossed in things ephemeral, to the neglect of higher things in life. Life is but short, and Death will soon claim you. Oh that men would only learn, before it is too late, the serious Issues of the higher life! They must taste the consequences of their neglect. For every good enjoyed they must in the Hereafter give a strict account of it, even to the least spent of it by their children.
Allah is warning and advising you in Quran Chapter Al-Takathur (102) also known as “The mutual rivalry”
Acquisitiveness, that is, the passion for seeking an increase in wealth, position, the number of adherents or followers or supporters, mass production and mass organization, may affect an individual as such, or it may affect whole societies or nations. Other people's example or rivalry in such things may aggravate the situation.
Allah Says in Verse 1: “The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things)”
Up to a certain point it may be good and necessary. But when it becomes inordinate and monopolises attention, it leaves no time for higher things in life, and a clear warning is here sounded from a moral point of view. Man may be engrossed in these things till death approaches, and he looks back on a wasted life, as far as the higher things are concerned.
Verse 2: “Until ye visit the graves.”
That is, until the time comes when you must lie down in the graves and leave and pomp and circumstance of an empty life. The true Reality will then appear before you. Why not try to strive for a little understanding of that Reality in this very life?
Verses 3-5 : But nay, ye soon shall know (the reality). Again, ye soon shall know! Nay, were ye to know with certainty of mind, (Ye would beware!)
Three kinds of yaqin (certainty of knowledge) are known:
The first is certainty of mind or inference mentioned here: we hear from someone, or we infer from something we know: this refers to our own state of mind. If we instruct our minds in this way, we should value the deeper things of life better, and not waste all our time in ephemeral things. But if we do not use our reasoning faculties now, we shall yet see with our own eyes, the penalty for our sins. It will be certainty of sight. We shall see Hell. But the absolute certainty of assured Truth is that described in Q69:51. That is not liable to any human error or psychological defects.
Verses: 6-8: Ye shall certainly see Hellfire!, Again, ye shall see it with certainty of sight! Then, shall ye be Questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in)!
You know the Mufassir told us that what Allah meant here is that, we mankind and Jinnkind, we shall be questioned, i.e., we shall be held responsible for every kind of joy we indulge in, whether it was false pride or delight in things of no value, or things evil, or the enjoyment of things legitimate or illegitimate, the last, to see whether we kept this within reasonable bounds.
Finally:
Note that Evil finds itself isolated, and cries out in lonely agony (89:24), while Good receives a warm welcome from the Lord of Goodness Himself,-also that it is the soul which enters paradise, and not the gross body which perishes. The climax of the whole is: "Enter My Paradise!" Men may have imagined all kinds of heaven before, and many types are used in the sacred Word itself. But nothing can express the reality itself better than "My Paradise"-Allah's own Paradise! May we reach it through Allah's grace! Ameen…….
“Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded". (6:90). May Allah bless us to serve him in all aspects of our lives.
Oh Allah forgives all our dead love ones, our parents living and dead. Oh Allah preserve our teachers those that dead and those that are living make them a great guide for us to Aljannah and not a distractor. Oh Allah me and the Muslim Ummah. Ameen.
Alahumma infa`ni bima `allamtani wa `allamni ma yanfa`uni! (OH ALLAH! Make useful for me what You taught me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me!)
