A Day with Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips and He delivered(Why were we Created?)

All praise is due to Allah. May His prayers and blessings be upon his Last Messenger and on all those who follow the path of righteousness until the Last Day. Not just Muslims, but every single human being has to answer the most fundamental question at some point in his or her lifetime: "Why was I created? Why am I here? What am I doing in this world? Why did God create me?" These questions are questions which each and everyone of us reflects on at some point during their life. We have some answers, which are given generally but usually these answers don't satisfy us - seeming somewhat simplistic. So, we still wonder: "Why me? Why here?". I know all of you (Muslims), are saying, "To worship Allah, khallas (finish). What more is there to say? Why do we need to have a big long talk on why we were created when we all know it is to worship Allah?!" But wait. If this is presented to a non-Muslim, the next logical question would be, "Why does Allah want...

Sorcery: Gate way to HELL

All praise is due to Allah Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and I testify that Muhammad (saw) is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Bestow peace and blessings upon Your Messenger Muhammad (SAW), his household and companions. Fear Allah and hold fast unto His Strong Rope and Straight Path and know that the most abominable of things is to disobey Allah. Be also aware that the greatest of all sins is the one greatest in consequence. Perpetrating major sins is tantamount to waging war against Allah and his Messenger (SAW). Sins differ in their consequences and punishments according to differences in their degree of contradiction of the purpose of creation and contrariness to the truth. In fact, Allah created the universe that He alone may be worshipped without associating any partners with Him. He (SWT) created the Heavens and the Earth in truth and in order to reward each soul for whatever it earned. He has also reformed the Earth by se...

Living The Quran Stand Up

Image
Hud (Prophet Hud) Sura 11: Verse 116 (partial) "Why were there not among the generations before you owners of wisdom restraining others from corruption on the earth, except a few of those whom We delivered from among them?" This verse holds a mirror to the conduct of earlier communities. It forcefully and effectively remarks on their failings. So doing, the Quran reminds Muslims of their role as the leaders of mankind, their duty to reform and to enjoin good and forbid evil. Muslims will be held accountable on these counts. Moral decay is like a fire raging through a community; it does not discriminate. People are quickly corrupted by rampant immorality, leaving only a select few with the fervour generated by faith to fight against it. The Quran does not warn mankind in this instance against polytheism. The focus of attention instead is on moral corruption. Only a select band of true believers stand up against it. Throughout history there have been those who resisted corrupti...

Improper dress for women and intermingling between sexes

Bismillahi Rahman Roheem The greatest and most important of all the favors and blessings bestowed by Allaah is Islam and the honorable Islamic law, which is derived from the Book of Allaah and the Prophetic Sunnah. This Law has outlined all that which is beneficial for mankind in this life and the Hereafter. One of the virtues of this Law is that its rules and regulations have clearly laid out preventions of all evil and immorality, and all the roads that lead to it which is a protection of the truth and morality. There are many issues for which this Law has laid out preventative measures so that people will not fall into evil, for example on some of the issues of faith, acts of worship and transactions. However, the most obvious of all of these preventative measures are those related to women and the limits that Allaah has defined for them not to exceed. Islam has clearly laid the guidelines for the Muslim woman to adhere to so that her personality remains distinct and her safety, pur...

The Hadeeth of al-Baraa bin Aazib

Bismillahi Rahman Roheem The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam gives us the answer! Upon the authority of al-Bara' ibn `Aazib who said: We went out with the the Prophet (SAWS) to a burial of a man from the Ansar (original inhabitants of Madina) until we arrived at the grave, and he still had not been placed in the slot of the grave. Then the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) sat down and we sat around him. You would have thought that birds were upon our heads from our silence, and in the hand of the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) was a stick which he was poking the ground with. [Then he started looking at the sky and looking at the earth and looking up down three times]. Then he said to us: "Ask Allah for refuge from the torment of the grave", he repeated this command two or three times. [Then he said O Allah I seek refuge in you from the torment of the grave] [three times]. Then he said: "Verily, the believing servant, when leaving this life and journeying to the...

Islam liberates the poor minds

Bismillahi Rahman Roheem. Julaybib (ra) was hunchbacked and was described as being 'ugly.' Before Islam, he sought refuge in the company of women because the men used to mock him. He slept under trees and roamed from one discomfort to another. He was barefoot and hungry; he possessed no status, wealth or family. His pillow was his own arm and his mattress was the uneven, rough, ground beneath him. But he always remembered his Lord and constantly recited the Quran. One day, he met the Prophet (saw) and asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, would I be able to enter Paradise even though my face is disfigured?' 'Yes,' he replied. 'O Messenger of Allah, why will no one marry me to their daughter?' Was there any hope for Julaybib to be treated with respect and consideration? Was there any hope for him to find the emotional satisfaction as an individual and as a man? Was there any hope for him to enjoy the relationships which others take for granted? Just as he was awa...
