The Articles of Faith (Series 4) Tawhid: Faith in all the Prophets

Bismillahi Rahman Roheem.

All form of Praises is due for Allah. We adore Him and seek His help and forgiveness. We have Faith and Trust in Him. We seek Allah’s refuge against evil tendencies of our Soul and our bad deeds.

He whom Allah guides no one can lead him astray. And he whom Allah lets go astray there is none to guide him. We bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, the One and without any Partner; and we also bear witness that Muhammad (SAW) is His servant and Messenger. Allah had sent him with Truth, to give good tidings and to warn before the Doomsday. Whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be successful and well guided.

And whosoever disobeys either of them has gone astray. Such a person harms none save himself; he does no harm to Allah. The best Word is the Book of Allah. And the best Guidance is that given by Muhammad (SAW). Good things are the firm (original) ones, and Bad things are those introduced later on. And everything introduced later (in religion) is innovation. And every innovation is Hell fire.

In the last series we explained that Allah messengers had been raised among every people, every nation and that they all brought essentially that same religion, Al-Islam, which the seal of the prophet Muhammad (SAW) propagated.

In this respect all the Messengers of Allah stand on par with each other. If a man belies any one of them, he, as it were belies all, and if a man affirms and believes in one of them, he must and ought to affirm all. One who does not believe in a particular Prophet would be a Kafir, though he may profess faith in all other prophets.

“The Messenger believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His Messengers. "We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His Messengers." And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (we seek) Thy forgiveness, Our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys." Q2:285.

All the Prophet of Allah has been deputed by Him to teach the same straight path of Islam. In this sense there is no difference between Muhammad (SAW) and the rest of the Prophets and we have been ordered to believe of them alike. But in spite of this equality lies some other qualities that differentiate them all.

“Those apostles We endowed with gifts, some above others: to one of them Allah spoke; others He raised to degrees (of honor); to Jesus the son of Mary, We gave clear (Signs), and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit……”Q2:253.

Different gifts and different modes of procedure are prescribed to Allah's Prophets in different ages, and perhaps their degrees are different through it is not for us mortals, with our imperfect knowledge to make any difference between one and another of Allah's Prophets.

As these winds up the argument about their qualities, three illustrations are given from the past, how it affected Allah's Messengers. To Musa (A.S) Allah spoke in clouds of glory; he led his men for forty years through the wilderness, mainly fighting against the unbelief of his own people; he organized them to fight with the sword for Palestine, but was raised to Allah's mercy before his enterprise ripened, and it fell to Joshua to carry out his plan. Dawud (A.S), though a mere shepherd boy, was chosen by Allah. He overthrew the greatest warrior of his time, became a king, and waged successful wars, being also a prophet, a poet, and a musician.

Issah (A.S) was "strengthened with the Holy Spirit' he was given no weapons to fight and his mission was of a more limited character. In Muhammad's (SAW) mission these and other characters were combined. Gentler than Issah (A.S), he organized on a vaster scale than Musa (A.S) and from Madinah he ruled and gave laws and the Quran has a vaster scope than the Zabur of Dawud (A.S).There is a two-fold sense: they were raised to high posts of honour and they rose by degrees.

Other notable differences are:

1. The Prophets of the past came to certain people for certain periods time, while Muhammad (SAW) has been sent to the whole world and for all time to come.

2. The Teachings of those Prophets have either disappeared altogether from the world or whatever of them remains is intermingled with many erroneous and fictitious statements. So we can not follow their teachings anymore now as a result of that and because Quran has come to abrogate them all as the last Book of messages from Allah.

3. The guidance imparted through the prophets of the past was not a complete one.Every Prophet was followed by another who affected alterations and additions in the teachings and injunctions of his predecessors and in this way, the chain of reform and progress continued. At last the most coded message of guidance was imparted to mankind through Muhammad (SAW) after the lapse of time for about 400 years after Issah then the arrival Muhammad (SAW). Whoever rejects to follow Muhammad (SAW) being the seal of prophethood, his teachings which never existed in the previous books of the earlier Prophets is known to be a disbeliever.

To become a true Muslim it necessary to have complete faith in Muhammad (SAW) and to affirm that he is Allah last and true messenger; his teachings are absolutely perfect free from any defect or error; and He is the last among the prophets of Allah, after no Prophet will be sent by Allah to mankind till the Day of Accountability and any personage that appear among people is definitely an impostor.

Let us be Muslim and a model for others to follow and Insha Allah we will continue the articles of Faith.

I ask for Allah forgiveness upon you and me, May He gives us the strength to be firm on the path of Islam, if you find any mistake in this discussion indeed it’s from me and whatever therein that benefit you is definitely Allah’s guidance. May Allah continue to Guide and Guard us aright. Amin

Oh Allah! We implore your extended mercy that will forgive our sins and erase our misdeeds and errors. Oh Allah Forgive all our sins hidden and open, big and small. Oh Allah forgives all our dead love ones, our parents living and dead. Oh Allah preserve our teachers those that are dead and those that are living make them a great guide for us to Aljannah and not a distractor. Amin

Alahumma infa`ni bima `allamtani wa `allamni ma yanfa`uni!
(OH ALLAH! Make useful for me what You taught me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me!)

“Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded". (6:90)

May Allah bless us to serve him in all aspects of our lives.

Wa Salaam Alaikum Waramotullahi Wabarakatuhu
